FXStreet reports that S&P 500 remains capped ahead of key 200-day average and price/gap resistance at 2986/99 and with a daily DeMark “sell” signal in place, analysts at Credit Suisse continue to look for a top here. 

“We look for a fall back to the top of the price gap from the beginning of this week at 2914, below which should see a test of the 13-day average at 2901/2899. A close below here is needed to add weight to our view to expose the lower end of the price gap at 2865.” 

“Near-term resistance is seen at 2960, then 2979/80, with 2998/3000 ideally continuing to cap. Above 3024 though remains needed to suggest our toping scenario is wrong.”

U.S. stock-index futures traded flat on Friday, as upbeat earnings reports from Nvidia (NVDA; +1.0%), Deere  (DE; +3.6%) и Alibaba  (BABA; -3.9%) and optimistic comments on early data on Moderna’s (MRNA; +3.3%) Covid-19 vaccine by U.S. health official Fauci were offset by another flare-up in tensions between the U.S. and China.

NVIDIA (NVDA) target raised to $400 from $360 at Needham

Alibaba (BABA) reported Q4 FY 2020 earnings of RMB9.20 per share (versus RMB8.57 per share in Q4 FY 2019), beating analysts’ consensus estimate of RMB6.07 per share.

The company’s quarterly revenues amounted to RMB114.314 bln (+22.3% y/y), beating analysts’ consensus estimate of RMB108.312 bln.

The company also issued in-line guidance for FY 2021, projecting revenues of RMB650 bln versus analysts’ consensus estimate of RMB656.44 bln.

BABA rose to $213.00 (+0.40%) in pre-market trading.

NVIDIA (NVDA) reported Q1 FY 2020 earnings of $1.80 per share (versus $0.88 per share in Q1 FY 2019), beating analysts’ consensus estimate of $1.53 per share.

The company’s quarterly revenues amounted to $3.080 bln (+38.7% y/y), beating analysts’ consensus estimate of $2.998 bln.

The company also issued upside guidance for Q2 FY 2020, projecting revenue of $3.65 bln, +/- 2%, versus analysts’ consensus estimate of $3.366 bln.

NVDA rose to $354.00 (+0.85%) in pre-market trading.

Deere (DE) reported Q2 FY 2020 earnings of $2.11 per share (versus $3.52 per share in Q2 FY 2019), beating analysts’ consensus estimate of $1.62 per share.

The company’s quarterly revenues amounted to $8.224 bln (-19.9% y/y), beating analysts’ consensus estimate of $7.679 bln.
